A few days back I was getting caught up with everyone’s updates on FaceBook and since it’s November I saw a few different people posting things they were thankful for. It made me think about that whole idea of being thankful for what I do have in my life.
I will be the first to admit that there are times when I don’t act very thankful. And yes, there are times where I don’t feel like I have much to be thankful for. In fact, I am sure during those times I could even convince most people that my circumstances do not merit a lot of thankfulness.
So for me, whether I am in a good place and can see those things I am thankful for clearly, or its one of those days, or weeks, or months were seeing things that way are hard, I think that regardless its probably good to be intentional about being thankful. Whether its easy or hard, I think we should purpose to seek out and remember the things we are thankful for. Now that’s easier said, then done.
Yesterday I thought I would start sharing through FaceBook one thing, each day, that I am thankful for. Not every day is going to be great. Some days will be awesome. Regardless, I want to choose to be intentional about being thankful for something each day. Will you join me for the rest of this month for this thankfulness initiative?
And here is what I think is going to happen…I think we’re going to develop our hearts and character in a new way, in a good way. I think it should help us to learn to be more patient in trials and more persistent when things get difficult. If we are successful with this initiative we are going to develop some serious muscles of thanks. Now that may sound a little corny to you, but I think being, and feeling and acting more thankful is something most of us will admit that we need. “Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.” [Hebrews 12:28] God has given us each so much, so do you see how thankful we must be? Will you join me this month, for this thankfulness initiative and purpose in your life each day to identify at least one thing that you are thankful for?
