There were a couple of days while in Kauai that the weather was beautiful, but the wind was pretty knarly and because of that, a lot of the beaches were closed to swimming. Because of that wind factor, we took a few road trips…and here is “Part 1”.
Our first road trip took us north. We wanted to drive to the northern most part of the island. Along the way we stopped at a few places to shop but our biggest stops came along the way at the local waterfalls.
This waterfall was called…Wailua Falls. We were so close to the edge of this waterfall that the mist from the water falling and crashing down below was hitting us from our vista point.
The next place we went to was Opaek’a Falls and we had lunch at this look out.
If you look to the top right side of the waterfall you will see a white object and that is a roof to a house…right at the peak of this amazing falls. I sorta wish I lived there. Well, after we got home we were showing our honeymoon pictures to our friends who went to Kauai for their honeymoon several years ago and they went to the same place, but when they took pictures of this falls there was no house then so even Kauai is growing…or something like that…
As we were heading north towards Princeville & Hanalei, we saw some signs for a light house, so we thought we’d check it out…and we were glad we did, it was a totally beautiful spot. Here is the Kilauea Lighthouse we found off of the main road…
Then we came across the look out spot of the breath taking Hanalei Valley. Off in the distance along the mountain walls we could see some large water falls. This was truly a beautiful spot on the island…
Our last stop in this day long road trip was in Ha’ena at the Manininholo Dry Cave and at the Waikanaloa Wet Caves that border the beginning of the Na Pali Coast State Park and the north shore of the island.
(I was extremely happy to wait here…)
(Out in front of the Tunnels @ Tunnels Beach)
(In front of the wet caves…that I wanted to snorkel…)
We had so much fun that day. It was amazing. We saw such a different part of the island too and we both were so happy we took the day to go on this adventure.
Our next adventure was to Hanapepe and the Waimea Canyon, so be lookign for the next post, “Our Kauain Road Trip (Part 2) to see the pictures and here the details.
